I'm happy to report that Steve Stanley - the council person who supported NASA - was re-elected by a wide margin yesterday. Also, Steve Nix defeated incumbent Janet McLeary. Ms. McLeary was the council person who lead the charge against the Sheffield Shooting Range. Hopefully the new Sheffield City Council will re-visit the range issue. In any case, good news.

They cost us $7,000 in attorneys fees last year, were rude to us, secretive, dissed us, and we have to share the range with their cops.
If we can raise the 100K, we need to depart and be done with em.
I have seen this hot and cold attitude towards the shooting club by the City's leaders for 22 years.
I wish folks could let it go.
How can we plan and make any range improvements as we hang on in Sheffield by a thread? We can be gone at the whim of the next political wind. And, I can't imagine them allowing centerfire bottleneck rifle fire again.
I love the Sheffield Range. It has been a major part of my life since 1989. I served as club president for at least 15 years. The competitive match schedule is one of the best in the country considering our size and distance restrictions. But, I am ready to move forward. Surely, many others are.

Well said Danny! I agree that it is time to leave on our terms and let them have it. I will miss the range, but I will not miss the cloud of doubt that has been over our heads for the last several years. After we leave, maybe they will finally notice what they had and lost as far as consistent revenue brought in by our members. It is time for us to control our own future.

Out of respect to you, Ulus, I will bow out of this thread. But, everything I said about the way we were treated is a fact. You were there. Danny

Steve tells me that with the people who have been elected, he will see what he can do in November when they take office. I would not count on it, but there is a chance we could get an extension. We need to move to a new location as soon as possible. There is nothing wrong with the city of Sheffield. I lived there for 12 years when I first moved here. There are a lot of great people in Sheffield who have supported us.

Just to be clear, I was not suggesting that we stay at the Sheffield Range indefinitely. I think the new range is the way to go and I have put my money where my mouth is. Realistically, however, I think it will take some considerable time (and more money) before the purchase and set-up of the new range is completed. It would be good indeed if we could continue to use what we now have while the new range moves forward. This will provide us with some financial and activity continuity insofar as our rimfire and handgun activities are concerned. If we could work out a temporary lease-for-fee arrangement with Sheffield this could provide a win-win situation for us both. If this were to occur, it suggests that our first priority in constructing a new range would be to provide a centerfire rifle range and then progress to our other needs. This way we address the needs of all our current members as soon as possible.

Sheffield elections behind us and the new council all know we are interested in revisiting extension of the current range. I believe an extension would be important to maintain a continued shooting program while we work toward the goals of a new range in full force. I too will hate to see the loss of convenience that Sheffield has brought us all. I hate to have to spend extra hard earned money during these times in our lives. But Reece and I love the sport of shooting. We also love the friendships and knowledge we get from each other.
Lets go forward with the best property at the best price that allows us to continue our shooting, our competitions, our friendships, our fun and our freedoms.
Thank you for all the many years of looking at available properties as we tried to prepare ahead of time for this move. We appreciate all the many hours of discussions, the driving far and wide to meet with owners and walking the properties and for what seems to be a rush into a decision while it really has been going on for years.
I am excited as NASA is moving forward to not only a good club but a great club with more diversified types of shooting and competitions ahead.
