CLUB BUSINESS
On Saturday, March 2nd, the officers and directors met and created a plan to develop the new range as well as discuss some other club issues:
1. James Day is negotiating with two of our new neighbors relative to acquiring optimum access to our property. If one of these easements can be secured, we can save thousands on road building.
2. We will obtain a survey of the property once the easement negotiations have concluded.
3. We agreed to meet at the new range site on Saturday, March 9th, and stake out the prospective ranges for the heavy equipment contractor(s) to view and then place bids.
4. We reviewed a first draft of the range rules rewrite and made some changes and deletions. Specifically, the consensus was to have shooting hours (Rule #16) at the new range run from 8:00 AM until sunset on Monday through Saturday and 12:00 noon until sunset on Sunday. Also, we changed the steel target minimum distance rule exception (Rule #19) from Defensive Pistol Matches to read any competitive matches. Finally, we discussed and agreed that rules #28, #29, and #30 were needed to keep good relations with our residential and business neighbors at the new location. These rules are printed in the first post following this newsletter for your perusal.
5. A motion was made and carried to discontinue 4H shooting activities under the direction of the North Alabama Shooting Association, Inc. until further notice.
6. A motion was made and carried to bring the rimfire benchrest matches back under the full control of NASA, Inc., with Ulus Farris serving as match director. These rimfire benchrest matches will be unsanctioned until further notice.
THE RANGE
On Saturday, March 9th, the officers, directors, and match directors met at the new range site to walk the property and determine the specific firing range locations. Initially, we will have the following four ranges created by the earth movers:
A single 200 yard highpower rifle range with tiered targeting at 50, 100, and 200 yards. It will have a concrete firing pad, 100 feet in width, and eight benchrests. The firing points will be covered eventually. Unfortunately, the 300 yard option is not feasible due to terrain, neighbors, and water run-off problems.
A single 50 yard multipurpose range with a concrete firing pad 100 feet in width. It will have at least four benchrests and ample room for three-position shooting.
Two 25 to 50 yard 180 degree shooting bays for multi-purpose use.
An area for aerial shotgun shooting will be designated after the firing range, road, and parking lot construction are completed.
We hope to have functional firing ranges ready by May 1, 2013. They may not be pretty, but they will be functional.
