I lucked up and acquired a 550 count box of loose bulk packed Federal 750 .22 LR cartridges last month. I wanted some plinking ammo on hand for when the kids come in to town. They always want Daddy, aka Pop, aka Uncle Danny to take em to the range. I decided to sight in two of my scoped bolt action sporters with the ammo to be ready for the next family range trip.
I was a bit disappointed in how the 39 grain HP ammunition grouped. I never could get it to shoot under an inch a 50 yards. But, it went bang every time and will certainly take out a rack of steel critter silhouettes, spin the spinners, shatter clays, or poke holes in a can on a string.
I must mention that these last two targets were fired after I purposely let the two rifles cool down for half an hour. Whether luck or "what they will do", both rifles put the first 39 grain pill in the center diamond. I will check zeros again at the start of the next family fun fest - nothing more frustrating than a rifle not shooting to POA:
I transferred the loose cartridges over to old CCI trays for easy handling:
The CZ 513 Basic will shoot half inch groups with SK Std Plus or Wolf MT:
The Remington Model Five (Zastava - made in Serbia) has never grouped very well with greasy target ammo but it has shot some half inch groups with CCI Blazer. It may not like plated ammo much either.
Just to make sure I wasn't cracking up. I fired my CZ 452 Trainer with SK Std Plus for a group. I was tickled that it shot this well right out of the rifle case and held its zero from the last range trip. Oops, I transposed the i and the e in Premier .
