Mountain Top Shooting at Crooked Oak
It will be fall before we know it, our club activity has been high considering the shortage of some ammo particularly 22LR. This is a recap of our annual meeting and new officer elections. The minutes were read by Ulus from our last meeting, out attendance was very small for this meeting. Danny Creasy made a motion to nominate these people for office and the motion was carried. Our new officers and the terms they will serve ;
President Dwight Pilkilton
Vice President James Day
Treasurer Andrew Butler
Secretary Ulus Farris
Board of Directors and Match Directors
4 Year Rory Amos Center-Fire Match Director
4 Year Bill Parkhurst Rim-Fire Match Director
3 Year Thomas Reed
2 Year John Butler
1 Year Jody Tippet
Please welcome our new officers, they are the new blood and drive for our organization.
Range Improvements
Discussion was made about improvements; these will be as money allows of course in the future. Grass on the banks to help with erosion, Improved Parking and possibly at some point getting water and power to the pavilion. Road improvement was also discussed as a necessary improvement as Mother Nature takes her toll with rain and time. A motion was made to get the upper ditch opened up and it was carried.
Some changes in our facility rules
A motion was made to allow large calibers to be fired on our range, this had much discussion and was a zealous topic. Everyone had strong feelings about this and a motion was called to allow 50BMG and the other calibers that were previously forbidden to be shot on our range. The motion was carried with a caveat; these large caliber firearms may only be fired after 12:00 each day and then only on the 100 and 200 Yard ranges. These will not be allowed to be fired in the pistol bays. Also this is afro a 1 year trial period to be discussed at our next annual meeting to see how this has worked out for our club.
Club Matches
The IDPA and 3-Gun matches will now be a part of North Alabama Shooting Association; the funds will help support our club and to perpetuate the particular disciplines with new targets, Props etc. We will start the 22LR Sporter Master annual match back up, Bill will manage the match and we will start awarding a plaque to the winner. This was the previous winners of the Sporter Master can participate in the match for a more global variety of talent and competition in good sportsmanship. I would like to say at this time that the events that led up to the club having to vacate the previous facility at Sheffield and the necessity of finding a new place and building a club in the short time we had to accomplish this was a herculean task that has taken its toll on the officers and everyone involved in this most daunting of tasks. Many of us are a “bit spent” from the events and actions of the previous 2 years. We stand today a strong club on our own property that we own outright, Let’s all be as active as our lives will let us and keep pushing our club forward for a better place to shoot for us and our family’s. Hopefully 22LR ammo will become more readily available and our Rimfire Matches will improve in attendance in the near future. The scarcity of ammo has impacted us heavily.
A quick word about the newest competition at our club, the Outlaw 3-Gun event held each month. Jody Tippet and the guys have done an incredible job with this, the turnout grows each month and shows no sign of slowing down. If you have never seen or shot in one of these event I encourage you to go out and participate, do not worry that you do not have the latest “Race Gear” there are categories for virtually every type of hardware. Jody, Thomas, David will help you out with the match and even loan you “stuff” to shoot if the need be. Our club is now part of 3 Gun Nation and our matches are sanctioned, a huge step for NASA.
Last but not least, we keep hearing about how difficult it is to join at our club. I hear “You only have a couple days a year to get in and I can’t always make those two days”. A motion was made and passed to have a membership committee to address this situation. The committee will be Jody Tippett, David Malone, Rory Amos, and Thomas Reed. They will arrange monthly membership days so folks can join most any month of the year. The dues schedule was voted on and is as follows. New Members will pay $200 if joining from May to December, after they will pay $100 from January through April. This should alleviate the problem and we will see how this works out.
Thanks and I hope this catches up on all the club business to date.
Remember to Shoot Straight and Tell the Truth
Sincerely
Dwight Pilkilton
NASA President
