CMP Rimfire Sporter
This is a match designed by and Nationally Sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a national organization dedicated to training and educating U. S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions. The CMP is a federally chartered corporation that places its highest priority on serving youth through gun safety and marksmanship activities that encourage personal growth and build life skills. The Rimfire Sporter Match is a shooting competition that is designed to be non equipment intensive, in other words you cannot buy “Guns and Gear” that will allow you to out gun other competitors. The contest is more closely a competition of concentration and technique. Our course of fire is very controlled with great emphases on safety and camaraderie among competitors. The competitors need only a light sporting rifle, eye and hearing protection (the type used for hunting and casual shooting) and two boxes (100 rounds) of Rimfire ammunition. Some things that come in handy are a mat or blanket to shoot from and any type of binoculars to help you score and aid in shooting. The match is fired from 3 positions, Prone (lying down), Sitting or kneeling, and offhand or standing from 50 and 25 yards. All participants under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to accompany them at the match. The North Alabama Shooting Association will provide staff including coaching and help at the match. We have two different categories, “O” open sights and “T” Telescopic for rifles equipped with scopes. The CMP Rimfire Sporter is the adopted shooting course for the 4H program and very similar to courses of fire used by college rifle teams. We expect a diverse group of shooters from 4 states that can be ages 8 to 80. Our club wants everyone to have a good safe day of competition and shooting, we will be awarding Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to anyone who fires the course within the medal scores set forth by the CMP Organization.
Thank You
