SHEFFIELD SHOOTING
JULY 2, 2011
BY DANNY CREASY
Club Treasurer Injured
Reece Stewart lost his right arm in an accident at work in June. As resilient as ever, Reece bounced back from surgery and is vigorously attending physical therapy in preparation for his fitting of a prosthetic arm in a few weeks. He has come by to visit at our Saturday morning matches the last two weeks and is eager to get back to shooting and hunting with his friends as soon as he is able. He extends a hearty thank you for all of the thoughts, gifts, and prayers.
Costly Wind Damage Incurred at the Range
In June, straight line winds and lightening downed or damaged many of our trees at the range. Only one of the buildings was slightly damaged but the road was impassable and several trees were left leaning and hanging in dangerous positions.
Some devoted club members got the range opened up with some hard work but the overall cleanup called for professional cutters and equipment. James Day and Reece Stewart took bids from a couple of companies and accepted the low bid of $6,500 to cut and remove 17 trees. The work was completed this week. Thanks to the club officers and members that took on this difficult task and saw it through.
Competitive Shooting - Administrative Changes
For administrative reasons, the officers and board recently voted to have the participants of three of our competitions set up independent administrative bodies but the officers and board want to make sure that these shooters know they are still welcome at the NASA, Inc. range and will lease the facility to the following organizations to hold their monthly matches for $10 a year; USBR shooters, Cowboy Action shooters, and Defensive Pistol shooters. All three organizations must deliver a document notifying NASA, Inc. of their clubs' names and leaders (including titles) at the annual NASA, Inc. administrative and operational meeting in December (date and time to be announced). The $10 range usage fees can be paid at the January 3rd 2012 dues/key meeting.
The 50/25, 25/25, CMP Sporter, RFRF, Raptor Match, Sheffield Factory Sporter Benchrest, Pdog Sniper, and Sporter Master Matches will continue to be administered by the club and no fee will be charged to shoot in these matches. NASA, Inc. will continue to be affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program and the National Rifle Association. These rimfire matches include the CMP's three position bullseye sporter matches and the club's liability insurance is provided through our club's registration as an NRA Club.
