As our range is closed until at least Monday if not longer I decided to go to the new Cypress Creek Indoor Range on Cloverdale road just outside Florence. It is a very nice range, I enjoyed myself and I encourage everyone to go there at least once. Just about the nicest indoor range I have ever visited and I have shot at several indoor ranges in the Houston TX area when I lived there.
However, it is perhaps too nice. I understand it cost $7 million dollars to build and based on the amount of traffic I saw there on a Saturday afternoon I don't see how they can make a profit. The indoor ranges I used to shoot at in Texas seemed to use the range itself as a lost leader and they made most of their money from the sale of ammunition, guns and accessories. This range charges $20 an hour which is fairly expensive for the average person in this area. The last time I shot at an indoor range in Texas the range fee was only $7 with unlimited time and that was back in 2007.
What you ya'll think?

Since I am a "member" at CCIR, I hope they are successful. Surely they have a business plan but I don't know what it assumes for sales vs range traffic.
My source put construction cost MUCH less than $7,000,000.
CCIR is $395 a year, $20 per hour walkin. By comparison, Last Resort in Madison is $400 a year, $20 a DAY walkin. Larry's P&P Ammo Dump is only $10 but that is for only 40 minutes during peak times. No annual rate that I can find. The only other indoor range I have shot on in modern times is Shoot Straight in Tampa which charges $250 a year, $15 an hour, but they have been in business since 1979.
Royal Range in Nashville starts at $279 a year with lots of higher priced options. $20 an hour pistol, $30 an hour rifle.
