SHEFFIELD SHOOTING

December 11, 2011
Annual Operations and Administrative Meeting Report
About three dozen members attended the annual ops meeting on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved. We have $13,127.66 in the bank at this time. About $20,000 in dues will be collected from the rank and file in the next two months.
Three shooting clubs submitted requests to hold matches at our range. Their requests were approved and each one of these clubs will pay an annual $10.00 range usage fee to N.A.S.A., Inc. each January at the first key meeting. Brief overview:
Shoals Sharp Shooters - U.S.B.R. Rimfire Club - third Saturday mornings - Match Director is Tony Gilmore, Co-Match Director is Barry Holmes, Range Officers are Dave Hollimon and Willie Rhodes, Scorers are Ulus Farris, Reed Gamble, and Peary Willard, Judges are Tony, Barry, Willie, Dave from above, and Bart Harkins, Treasurer and Statistics Keeper is Anedra Gilmore, Match Fee = $1 per class shot, $20 for the Alabama State Championship, and $25 for the National Championship.
Defensive Pistol Shooters - IDPA rules - third Sunday afternoons - Match Director is Rory Amos, Range Officers are Rory, Jim Watson, Randy Nash - Match Fee is $5.00
Cowboy Action Shooters - somewhat using S.A.S.S rules - second Sunday afternoons - Match Director is Jody Tippett - Range Officers are Jody and Mark Parker - Match Fee is $5.00
James Day is heading up projects to improve all the surfaces of the range and to replace the target racks on the 50 yard pistol range.
The garbage issue was discussed. Trash is getting to be a real problem at the range. Please make sure you place all trash in the garbage cans at the range. Also, remember to pull your fired targets and toss them in the cans. If left up, they get wet and then tear off and blow around the range. Somebody has to pick them up. So, a little consideration by our shooters can make the range a much safer and more attractive environment for our guests, our families, and us.
To better handle the current level of trash, we are contracting with the city to provide a dumpster at the range. They will lease us the dumpster and empty it weekly for around $70 a month.
Nominations and an election were held. Here are our club leaders:
President - two year term - Dwight Pilkilton, Florence
Vice President - two year term - David Hollimon, Muscle Shoals
Secretary - two year term - Ulus Farris, Sheffield
Treasurer - two year term - Andrew Butler, Huntsville
Four Year Director (Rimfire Match Director) - Danny Creasy, Florence
Four Year Director (Centerfire Match Director) - Jim Watson, Florence
Three Year Director (Grounds and Hunter Liaison) - James Day, Muscle Shoals - two years remaining
Two Year Director (Sergeant at Arms) - John Butler, Florence
One Year Director - (Member Liaison) - Willie Rhodes, Sheffield
Thank you gentlemen for accepting the leadership responsibilities of our club. Please support these men in their positions over the next few years.
Membership Renewals
As usual, membership renewals can be processed in person on the first Tuesdays in January and February. These 2012 dates are January 3rd and February 7th. The "Key Meetings" will start at 6:00 P.M. and conclude at 8:00 P.M. and they will be held at the Sheffield Recreation Center.
Membership Renewals can also be processed by mail. They have been coming in since the Deember 1st start date. If renewing by mail, please mail a $50 check or money order to NASA, Inc., P. O. Box 3565, Florence, AL 35630 along with a copy of your 2010 membership card. ANY RENEWALS BY MAIL WILL BE RETURNED IF THE COPY OF THE 2010 MEMBERSHIP CARD IS NOT ENCLOSED OR THEY ARE RECEIVED LATER THAN FEBRUARY 7TH.
Please take note: A club official will change the range locks at dusk on January 3rd. The clubs post office box will be checked for membership renewals on January 3rd and those renewals in hand will be processed at the January 3rd meeting and mailed that night. The box will be checked again on February 7th and the rest of the mailed in renewals will be processed at the February 7th meeting and mailed that night. So, a "pay by mail" member will be locked out for at least a couple of days if he/she got them in by January 3rd or just over a month if he/she got them in from January 4th to February 7th. NO RENEWALS WILL BE PROCESSED BEFORE JANUARY 4TH.
AND, please don't wear suspenders and a belt. Don't mail in a renewal and then show up at that meeting to pick up a key. This is very disruptive. Someone has to leave the processing line and go look through scores of envelopes for the paranoid member's correspondence and then insert them in the flow. Just pick one - in person or by mail. Your club leadership highly recommends the present members to come in person, pay, and get a key.
Prospective Members
The club application pdf file (club web site) was turned back on at 8:00 A.M. on December 1, 2011. Please complete the form, sign it, and mail it to: NASA, Inc., P. O. Box 3565, Florence, AL 35630. The prospective member's name will be added to a waiting list and depending on how many membership slots remain open after February 7, 2012, the prospect will be contacted and informed as to whether or not he/she can report for in-processing (date to be announced in February 2012).
