You can shoot in all of them with a rig like this: CZ 452 American, .22 LR caliber, with a 6-20X40 Weaver Grand Slam scope mounted in Warne 7.3/.22 tipoff rings. Add a sling, modest bench rest, rear bag, and some quality .22 LR ammo and you're ready to compete in the 50/25 Sporter Silhouette Match, the CMP Sporter 3 position match, the Rapidfire Rimfire Match, and the USBR's sporter class benchrest match. Oh, pick up a bi-pod and you can shoot the Raptor Match as well. You could duplicate this same rig for $300 less by substituting a Savage Mk II rifle and a Barska, BSA, or Simmons scope.

That's right Ulus. The addition of a Ruger Mk I, II, or III or a Browning Buckmark would let the new enthusiast compete in the second Saturday events as well.
To practice for the pistol match, I suggest one take his/her .22 auto or revolver over to the rimfire range. Step off 25 yards (there is a paint stripe on the railroad tie wall at 25 yards) and then start by shooting at the two big steel swinging squares. They don't swing much when hit by a .22 but you can hear the "ding". When you can hit these every time, graduate to the two circular spinners. When you can regularly hit the big one, try to start popping the little one.
Instead of blazing away, remember BRASS (breath, relax, aim, sight, squeeze). Hold your sessions to 50 rounds with a pistol (25 yards) and 30 with a rifle (50 yards). After that, you are just fatiguing your self and reinforcing bad habits. Make each shot count and learn from it. When you start calling your hits and misses at the break of the shot, you are getting there and when you can go five for five on the big spinner and two out of five on the little spinner, you have arrived.

Danny, I have just joined this site and want to come and shoot the rimfire matches.I would also like to get my 17 year old son and my 13 year old girl involved. We live in Cypress Inn Tennesseeabout 14 miles from Underwood. I have a few questions. #1--are the GPS cordaniates sticky correct on how to get to the match?
#2--What all costs are involved in the saturday shoots?
#3--I have already applied with the CMP for a shooting # is this all that is required?
#4--I have a Ruger mark 1 and a Marlin 795 and a Nylon 66 as a few of the guns I would like to start off with I want to shoot iron sites I am not interested in the CZ with a scope yet.Can the rifles above be used in your matches?
#5 Sorry for all the questions but I know will be able to understand a lot more after I attend the 1st match.

Read this over Bobby. It should be of great help to you. dwightpilkilton.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rapidfirerimfire&action=display&thread=971. I can't guarantee the GPS coordinates. But, we are next door to Tennessee Valley Recycling, 700 West 20th Street, Sheffield, AL 35660 if that helps any. 2. No match fees are charged for any of the Saturday morning .22 rimfire matches at this time. That may change next year. 3. That's great but you can shoot in Dwight's CMP Sporter Match even if you don't have a CMP competitor number. 4. Yes, you can use the handgun and rifles you mentioned in our matches. 5. No apology needed. Ask away and yes, a visit to one of the matches will be most helpful. We all know one has to start somewhere and no one will laugh or deride a new shooter at our matches. We just ask that you be safe and have fun.

This weekend is USBR benchrest.
The next weekend is CMP Sporter (three position bullseye).
And, September has five Saturdays this month. So, the last weekend of the month will be the Raptor Match.
People will be their at 7:30 for all of them and shooting will start around 8:00 AM.
