SHEFFIELD SHOOTING
by Danny Creasy
May 7, 2013
The Range
AS PER CITY OF SHEFFIELD - NO SHOOTING AT SHEFFIELD RANGE AFTER MAY 11TH.
The Sheffield Range is now locked with a City lock.
It's time to leave Sheffield.
Unfortunately, the new range is not ready.
Due to all the spring rain, our earth moving contractor has not been able to even start the construction at Crooked Oak.
Next week will be our last one in Sheffield. We have set a work day for Saturday, May the 18th, at the Sheffield Range (8:00 AM start time). We must vacate. We will move everything we want to take with us. We cannot take it to the new range, because it will simply be in the way of the contractor when it gets dry enough for him to start working.
Membership
We have sold 84 $1,000 life memberships, 13 $500/$100 annual memberships, and 12 $200 annual memberships.
There are 16 life memberships remaining. There is no cap on the number of $500/$100 memberships.
Two key meetings remain - Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, June 2nd - both are come and go between 2 and 4 PM. The first one is at the Sheffield Range and the second one is at the new Crooked Oak Range. Club members may also take care of their renewals at the work day on Saturday, May 18th.
Financials
As of May 7, 2013:
Checking account balance = $61,819.71
Savings account balance = $6,651.36
The Cold Hard Facts
Due to the weather delays, we will have no place to shoot for awhile.
You are all adults and you well know that everything does not always go the way you want it to. There is no need to call and complain to Dwight or any of your other club leaders. Heck, we have been shooting matches every weekend for the past 20 years. Don't you think we want to get a range built as bad or worse than you do. Talk about gun powder withdrawal!
We will have a fine range eventually - a better range. But, it will take one of those Alabama mini-droughts to get it built. Maybe in June - maybe in July - heaven forbid August, but you never know.
Passings
One of our long time members, Chad Cohenour, recently died after a long battle with cancer. Chad owned and operated Chad's Payless Pharmacy in Florence for years. He was a gun guy and a nice guy. We will miss you Chad.
Four of our shooting friends lost their fathers or father-in-laws in the past month: Que, David Hollimon, Hal Howard, and myself. If we have missed anybody else, please let us know.
See you this coming Sunday ladies and gents.
