I went to the range yesterday to sight in my Kimber 82 about 4 pm. At about 4:30, I look back toward the road and saw a doe and 2 fawns just standing there watching me. I watched them for several minutes before they walked off. The gunfire didn't seem to bother them. I guess they didn't know what it was and came to find out.

Last Friday evening Bart, Anedra and my self were sighting in our pistols and got to talking around dusk and seen the same doe and her 2 fawns. I still had my spotting scope out and spun it around to get a good look at her and the kids, she is a nice size healthy looking doe. I think from where she keeps being spotted that she might just be the one that came down the road over to the rifle side that morning we were having the raptor match and was snorting at us. We sat there 10-15 min just watching them watch us, and she just walked on down the driveway. On my way out I had to wait on her to move out of my way so I could get out, she must be a resident because she is not scared of people at all but she will get to snorting if you get within 50 or so feet of the kids. It sure is good to be in Alabama and have a place that wildlife and humans can share the same territory and get along without her getting killed. I do hope no one takes a pot shot at her or the fawns; it is kind of nice to kick back and watch nature at it's best. I don’t know what our club rules are but if someone shoots her it would make some people like myself rather perturbed! However I would think shooting a high powered rifle toward the road could and would be a criminal offense, not to mention killing a deer in town (the game warden would love to catch someone doing that) We could make her and her little family our mascots since we in her back yard. I totally agree Tony.
Sadly, that's the way I felt about the fox that I watched grow up from a kit out there. I understand that it met a tragic end in a hail of lead.
I have been told of at least three deer gut piles found at our range over the past twenty years. It is not legal to hunt in the city and our range is in the city.

Good news Danny, there is a new fox family that has been spotted in the past 2 months or so. She looked like a gray fox until you look at her thru a spotting scope and then she’s red as all get out. She has 3-4 pups (or whatever they call a gaggle of foxes ) and another adult fox with her usually, they live over in the far left corner of the rifle range or that’s where they are every time I have seen them lately. I have a good 300mm zoom lens on my Nikon still camera and had taken some great pics. of the pups playing and the adults romping around. They seem to be used to us and stayed out there 25-30 min just playing, but they wont get within 50 yds. of people yet which is probably a good thing. Since the time change I have been down there later than usual so we get to see more wildlife at play and foraging, 4-5 deer, fox family, beavers, coons, and what looked like some kind of otter he didn't stick around long when he seen us watching him. It is truly a relaxing activity to just sit and watch the animals having fun without the threat of being shot. See yall Sat., "T"

To clarify. It is only illegel to hunt with a firearm in the city limits. But, it should be a rule not to throw down on our wildlife members. I am a hunter, but I think it should be done on hunting land not on our shooting range. Might be an oxymoron saying that, but if you are a hunter you understand what I am saying. Leave our wildlife refuges alone because it is not fair game hunting.

To clarify. It is only illegel to hunt with a firearm in the city limits. It is illegal to shoot, trap, harass, an animal on city property or your back yard in the city limits unless opposing a threat. To clarify it is a rule violation and a violation of the law and violators will be prosecuted and banished from our association immediately. And correct me if I am wrong here Mr. President, there will be no hunting, killing, harassing, or otherwise at our new range when constructed even if it is in the county. Our club is posted and privately occupied by a corporation "NASA Inc." and there fore can and does prohibit the taking of game by any means on NASA held property. So short of a bear attack there is to be not 1 hair on an animal disturbed on our range."T"
