Interesting point Jon.
I am glad it is getting some traffic. With only a few of our 250 members registered, I felt that it was not really a very effective communication tool.
Hey Dwight, your thoughts?

Interesting point Jon. I am glad it is getting some traffic. With only a few of our 250 members registered, I felt that it was not really a very effective communication tool. Hey Dwight, your thoughts? Much more to it than that. The Domain name registration is just 1 part. then you need software to run the board, something like Power Boards or other software and this has to be re-licensed each year along with the domain name. Next you need a hosting server to manage the bandwidth and space needed for the board and future growth. This can be done on a stand alone PC that is dedicated to hosting the board and you will need a DSL or Cable (preferably a T1 or T3) INTERNET connection. The PC must run 24/7 and really needs to run nothing but the server software. I have a board and went through all this setting it up with a Domain name and a dedicated host. I use Go daddy for my hosting site, Power Boards for the software and domain name through Go Daddy. Once you go on-line it will take up to a year for the search engines to find you depending on traffic and or purchased "seeding" services that allow your site to be more visible on the Web. This was the reason for our little board I chose Proboards, turnkey operation and it's free. the drawbacks are it is difficult to find unless you are a member or have the address. I put a lot of time into www.rimfireshooting.com and it is just now starting to draw attention on the web with just under 900 members and over 13 thousand posts. If we want to do this for our board I can look into the cost, there is no way to move current members or posts over to a new board that I can find. If we have someone who is willing to do all this in the club and wants the Job I can turn it over to them, but it needs to be someone in the club for realiability reasons (IMHO) Dwight

There might be a work around on this. I just purchased WWW.NASACLUB.comas soon as the sale is approved by Go-daddy I should be able to set a pointer through software to this site. If all works you would be able to type in WWW.NASACLUB.com and it will take you to the current site we use. This will forgo having to purchase software or anything else......that is if all works according to plan ;D Lets hope Dwight

will it not generate a "hit" from every school ager who is looking for NASA space program ? if so is that necessarily a bad thing? i could be a way to promote youth nra and cmp programs.
