Our next regularly scheduled Raptor Match is not going to be held until January 30th. That's the next 5th Saturday. However, several folks have requested that I try to schedule one earlier since we used October's 5th Saturday (that was 10-31-09) for the USBR Regional and National.
I checked with Dwight and Tony today at the CMP Sporter Match and proposed that we hold a Raptor Match on the third Saturday in December. It would be the same day as the USBR Match (December 19th). But, we felt that the two matches, held simultaneously, would compliment each other rather than detract. Folks that shoot both can have twice the fun that morning and folks that only shoot one of the two will be exposed to the other. Even if they choose to only observe one or the other, it may add some new participants to one or both disciplines in the long run.
The Raptor will be held on the 100 yard highpower rifle range and the USBR will be held on the Rimfire range. Tony pointed out that the pistol range would be a great place to congregate in the middle. So we will be shooting steel to the left and paper to the right and bull in the middle .
Surely the deer hunters will have their rifles, muzzleloaders, and slug guns sighted in before then and we won't be inconveniencing any of them.
Tony and I will coordinate to enable everybody to shoot any events of their choosing (including he and I).
Hey, who else beside me would like to see Barry tie a bi-pod to one of his tack drivers and go chicken hunting?
Now, I need to do some scope swapping. The fixed 36 power I have on my favorite Raptor rifle is just too much scope. August was the second time I have attempted the Raptor with a 36 and it costs me points. The 36 works great in practice sessions but it is easy to get disoriented with it in the heat of battle during a match and as my fellow Raptor Match shooters can attest, time is a precious commodity in this match.
Please note - we well hold the regularly scheduled Raptor Match on January 30th as well.
