I PICKED UP A NEW “TOY” REPRODUCTION THOMPSON IT IS The VOLUNTEER ENTERPRISES MARK III Commando. Semi auto, 30 round stick mag, Iron semi adjustable rear sights, removable CUTTS compensator, finned barrel, all the bells and whistles just not a class3.AND IT HAS A VERY LOW SER. # 047XX THE HIGHEST NUMBER I HAVE FOUND ON THE NET IS 3695143. Any idea how many were made ? mine was made before the pat. was issued.
A piece of local history found at 1 of my local haunts. The VOLUNTEER ENTERPRISES MARK III Commando, a .45 caliber Tommy gun look-alike once manufactured in Knoxville, Tennessee FROM 1969-1976
I took is out to the range Saturday afternoon about 15min. after I bought it.
It commanded a lot of attention and was a blast “so to speak” to shoot. It’s easy to go thru 250 rounds in a few mins. But you cant put a price on fun.
Very low recoil, not the first malfunction, a true joy to shoot.
IF ANYONE HAS ONE OR HAS ANY INFO ABOUT THE RIFLE OR COMPANY PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
It functioned perfectly and shot a one-hole group @ 50', in spite of the poor sights and trigger. The trigger and related parts appear similar to those on the Grease Gun, and the WWII Thompson had similar sights. This gun is more accurate than the original because of the longer barrel and closed bolt firing. It weighs less too; 8 lbs vs. 11 lbs.
I took the gun completely apart--you don't need a manual-- and found it to be very easy to work on ALMOST no parts are available for these guns. The striker resembles those used on pocket autos.

Commando Mark 45
Q: A friend of mine asked me to look at a semi auto version of the old Thompson submachine gun. It is made by Volunteer Enterprises and stamped "Commando Mark 45." The serial number is 57XXX. It's in about 98 percent condition. Can you give me some background information and an approximate value? --A.K., Indianapolis, IN
A: Volunteer Enterprises manufactured the Commando Mark III Carbine in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1969 to 1976. These semi auto blowback weapons look very much like the 1928 Thompson submachine gun. After 1978 Volunteer Enterprises became Commando Arms. In 98 percent condition, your Tommy gun look-alike should command $500
