Heck, a lot of folks are off of work on Monday the 5th.
So, lets shoot a CMP Sporter Benchrest Match
For this one, we will waive the requirement that the shooter must have just fired in a CMP 3P Sporter Match but all of the rifle and scope rules will stand.
Rifle and scope cannot exceed 7 lbs 8 ozs. The trigger pull must be equal to or greater than 3 lbs. The scope's magnification must be six power or less (a variable can be taped at six or less)
Distance = 25 yards Target = USBR Green Monster Time = 20 minutes for unlimited sighters and 25 shots for score
Any two piece front and rear rest can be used but the front rest must be set before the shooting starts and then left alone throughout the course of fire. A bi-pod is okay as well and it can be removed for weigh-in.
No entry fee.
If you want to give your O Class rifle a try at BR, then we will move the targets up to 50 feet and shoot a string without glass. I tried this once and it was doable.
I must emphasize to everyone that the O stands for open sights not aperture. If more than one shooter brings a compliant A Class rifle, they can shoot against each other at 50 feet in an Aperture Class string. "A" Class is not being officially shot at Perry this year but it was allowed at club level this past year and we had several that shot it.

It was a beautiful morning and relatively mild for July in North Alabama. Tony's little machine recorded the top breeze of the morning at 2 miles an hour. Like Peary said, "this would have been a great morning for the regular bench rest match". "True dat" Peary.
I have shot dozens of 25 yard targets with the American back in the RFC online match days. So, I had an advantage. The big difference to me was the fact that we could use scopes up to 24 power in that old game. This 6X ceiling takes some getting use to.
Barry, Tony, and Peary shot second targets with their scoped sporters for fun. Barry shot a 244-8X, Tony shot a 238-4X and I didn't catch Peary's second score but I did hear him say that he did better with Federal SV the second time around as opposed to the 510 he used on the first target. Tony's second group was down to .24675".
With these top benchrest shooters' learning curve, I would estimate that a 250 or at least 249 would be turned in within a couple of more of these CMP Sporter BR matches.
Tony had to pull the big scope off of his regular USBR Sporter Class rifle to make weight and then adjust his trigger up to 3 lbs. I want to say a special "thanks" to the USBR shooters for tweaking their equipment and taking the time to try this new match. On the other hand, you guys need an excuse to buy another rifle - right?
I think I will drop the non-scope classes. If six to 12 shooters show up for one of these in the future - all with scoped sporters - then we would finish in under two hours. Just a neat little fun match to throw in here or there in the future. Let me know your thoughts.
I thought about changing it to the Sheffield Light Sporter Bench Rest Match and allowing any safe trigger and any glass while holding the weight to 7.5lbs and then decided against it. It is a challenging compliment to the established CMP Sporter and USBR Matches just the way it is.
Thanks again to all who participated.

This was fun and I'm ready to do it again. I will bring the Rem 597 next time.
