Looking for real life info. on these guns. The articles I have read look good . I think the size would be a good gun for deer hunting in thick woods and hunting out of trees stands. The foward mounted scope has a very fast sight picture. I have not shot one yet.

Tommy, I can't help you out much on the rifle in question. I have not even handled one yet. But, as far the scout mounting system goes, I like the ones I have on a couple of my rifles and yes they are fast. Custom CZ with a Burris scout mount and and a Burris 2.75 scout scope: Taurus 62 stainless carbine with a Leupold 2X pistol scope mounted using a Taurus rear sight dovetail base and B-Square rings:

I have been looking for one for over a year, have not found one locally, got my grubbies on one in Montgomery SWEET wrong caliber, saved $500.00, Whew! When I find one I will have to get it. Just made a 6.5x55 Swede into a Scout, ugly but shoots good.

I'm pretty fond of the ruger M77 action myself. Years ago some of their bbl's varried in quallity and you still occassionally see a "finnicky" ruger (in a few calibers their twist rate was a bit of an odd choice) but overall they are very well made rifles with strong modified "quasi-mauser" actions. Smooth as silk with controlled round feed...which I like personally. The two most accurate rifles I've ever owned have been a ruger standard walnut M77mkII in .308 and a older M77 HBAR varmint rig in .243 (I probably should have kept both of em to!) The triggers are kind of crappy out of the box (exception being their HBAR target/varmint rifles) but they are simple triggers and easy enough to recountour are polish up www.centerfirecentral.com/77trigger.html or there are aftermarket upgrades from several companies. For hunting it's not that bad out of the box (usually 5-5.5 pounds stock) The M77 frontier is just the same rifle with a shorter bbl and a forward scout mount installed. Nikon makes some decent affordable pistol scope for well under $300 that would work well (I have a monarch at the shop that looks nice. Stay around 1.75-2.5 power fixed -I think the variables are a waste of $$ -for this type of application simple is faster and better. I think A frontier in 7-08 could just be close to the perfect deer rifle for this part of the country. You should be well pleased. I'm loading the 139gr Hornady interlock BT SST's in my 7mm rem mag at speeds you should be able to reach more effiently (or at least get close to) in the .70-08. Really a joy to shoot that ligher bullet (in my case 63gr of H4831SC) You'd probably be looking more at H4895...I'd start at the starting loads in the Lee book seated to cannelure with a good Lee factory crimp die crimp. Rugers are long throated in the extreme so a good crimp is needed. I have seated them out to the extreme freebore dimensions and backed of in steps from contact with rifling and found cannelure seated with a firm crimp actually is more accurate (In my rifle...YMMV) I've been waiting for a frontier to walk through the shop myself (used...no luck yet) I think you'll be happy with your purchase...they are a little over-inflated price wise but then again compared to the "other" scout rifle out there they are dirt cheap! In short...I want one to!
