2:00 PM on Father's Day. If you can't make it - you can't - but for those who have lost their Dad and their kids have moved away - this should be an exciting shooting event to work off that Sunday dinner.
The competitor will need an open or optically sighted .22 semi-automatic pistol and two 10 shot magazines. Bring at least 100 rounds of ammunition (please fire a magazine full or so on the pistol range before the match starts as a function test).
We will set up four steel critter racks with five rams on the first one at 25 yards and five pigs and five turkeys on the second one at 50 feet. The same set ups will be on three and four.
We will need a pac timer (anybody got one?).
The shooter will start with a "load and make ready command" at bench #1. NO HOLSTER DRAWS - THESE RIMFIRE PISTOLS ARE SIMPLY NOT SET UP FOR THAT PURPOSE
The shooter will rest the pistol's muzzle on the bench and at the beeper, start shooting the rams. When either the rams are all down or his/her first mag is empty, he/she will move to the second bench with trigger out of finger guard and muzzle pointing down range. He/she will then engage the second rack with whatever (if any) ammunition is left from rack #1 and then reload with the second magazine which will be placed on the second bench in advance.
After the shooter unloads, shows clear, and flags his pistol he will leave the line. The RO and scribe will record his/her time and the number of standing silhouettes. The shooter's score will be the raw time plus five seconds for each critter left standing.
The RO and scribe will then move to bench three and four where the next shooter will take the line and repeat the process.
After the second shooter is cleared and the range is safe, the gang will quickly reset the racks and the next two shooters will take the line.
Every shooter will get three runs and only his/her best score will count in the overall standings.
All shooting will be done offhand and no part of his/her body can be touching the bench while firing or his/her score for that run will not count.
I think this will be a blast. Please, please, please, make sure your gun works!!!! Nothing distracts from these matches like malfunctions.
Heck, if my girls were in town, they would say, "Daddy this is your day, what do you want to do this afternoon?" My response, "Let's go shoot Miniature IPSC!"
